GPS Support
If you are having trouble getting the LACRASH application to recognize the GPS Unit,
download the newest drivers from Delorme's Website
Another common problem for Windows XP users is having the computer recognize the
USB-to-Serial drivers. If you are having problems with your GPS Unit on Windows
XP follow the instructions on Delorme's Support Center before trying to use the GPS Unit
with the LACRASH application. Make sure when installing the drivers for the GPS
Unit that you select the option to install for use with third party software. This
is imperative so that the computer recognizes the USB-to-Serial drivers it needs
in order for the LACRASH System to communicate with the GPS Unit.
If you are having trouble getting your GPS Unit to be recognized on the COM port
that its USB-to-Serial drivers have installed, you can download and install the
Emulator
from Delorme's Website.
Note: If you are attempting to use Delorme's Street Atlas USA 2005, you may
encounter problems switching between it and the LACRASH System due to the same driver
installation reasons mentioned above.
Also note: With the newer versions of the LACRASH application, there is no
way to manually set which COM Port the system will try to use in order to connect
to the GPS Unit. Currently, the LACRASH System will attempt to autofind which virtual
COM Port the GPS Unit is mapped to so it may take a while for it to become responsive.
This issue is being worked on and will be modified so that the officer using the
GPS Unit will be able to choose which port the GPS Unit is connected to for faster
pick-up of GPS connectivity. This means the officer may want to know what COM Port
has been established between the GPS Unit and the Operating System.
Lastly, please remember that in order for the system to begin recognizing a GPS
Unit, the configuration file for the LACRASH application must have its GPS Enabled
value set to True.
